We unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our beloved German Shepherd, Izzy, on Thursday, and it was one of the hardest days of my life. The heartbreak is truly indescribable. Through it all, I am so deeply grateful for the compassion and support we received from his vet tech, Jennifer Taylor.
From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, JT treated Izzy — and us — with such tenderness and respect. She made sure we felt supported every step of the way, held space for my tears with open arms and without hesitation, and most importantly, created a peaceful, dignified environment for Izzy to pass, surrounded by love. In one of our darkest moments, her empathy made an unbearable day just a little softer.
Additionally, Izzy had been under Dr. Maldonado’s care for many years, and I truly believe his life — defined by loyalty, strength, and unconditional love — was a reflection of the exceptional care he received. Dr. Maldonado is a true blessing. The entire Monterey Animal Clinic team showed us such kindness and professionalism during a moment that will stay with us forever.
Saying goodbye to a dog like Izzy — our protector, our loyal companion, our family — is something you’re never prepared for. But I will always be thankful that in his final moments, he was surrounded by compassion, dignity, and people who truly cared.
